There are two widely recognized tests to help diagnose alcohol use disorder: the Michigan Alcohol Screening Test (MAST) and the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). MAST was created in 1971 as a self-screening test and the AUDIT was created in 1989 based on data from a World Health Organization (WHO) collaborative study.
